Mets AAA Affiliate Blasts Away in Home Opener

AAA: @ Buffalo Bisons 12, Scranton/WB Yankees 3

Jeurys Familia: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K. According to Bisons’ broadcaster Ben Wagner, his curve was “electric.” Through 9.2 innings over his first two starts in AAA, Familia has six walks and 12 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the Bisons were beating up on Yankees prospect Dellin Betances for eight runs including three homers in 3.1 innings. I argued on Wednesday that if David Wright does need to go on the DL it was time to give Zach Lutz a shot at third.

I clearly inspired Lutz who was 2-4 with a pair of homers. He’s now hitting a modest .333/.385/.625 (8-for-24) in his first seven games.

Jordany Valdespin was 1-4 with a homer, and a walk. The homer was his first extra-base hit of the year. He also scored from second on a sacrifice fly to centerfield after which the Yankees’ CF was removed with an injury. Hey, two walks in a week, we’re getting somewhere with this.

Tedquarters hero Valentino Pascucci smacked his fourth home run and is now hitting .286/.423/.905 for a 1.328 OPS. See y’all small sample sizes are fun!
